Races

The race you choose in TextSpaced when creating a character decides many attributes of the game, including the skills available, modifiers and availability to ships and services. This article details all the different ways race influences your game.

Humans are a well-rounded race that excel at interpersonal factors making them the best at activities like trading, missions and generally dealing with people. The skills available for humans are generally well distributed with a slight focus on cooperation and camaraderie.

Clones are naturally reckless thrill-seekers that have a deep fury and fearless nature about them. Their skills mainly focus on combat, intimidation and power as well as nefarious tasks. They are not as good as humans with interpersonal factors lacking warmth and compassion.

Androids as expected excel at technical and precise tasks, making them perfect for crafting and computer related activities. They have the potential to grow in all factor areas and have many unique skills allowing them to augment and modify themselves as well as interface with other systems.

One of the biggest differences between the races is that the Transitional Government deems clones and androids illegal. This means you will not be able to command any government ships or use the services in any government system. Moreover, entering a government system will cause a karma drop. The government may also decide to issue missions to have you hunted down and destroyed by other players.

Another large difference is that clones have a limited lifespan, and if the lifespan is reached (a countdown is shown in the "me" window) then you will persistently lose skill levels. You can extend your life as a clone by finding and using various consumables. For androids, they can catch viruses with varying effects and these viruses can be spread to other androids.

Humans are naturally more affable and better and relationships, this translates to dealing with other characters in a more friendly manner but also having an increased trading modifier. Conversely, androids are not as good at relationships so have a reduced trading modifier and may find it harder to deal with other characters or gain karma. Clones are more aggressive by nature which also reflects in relationships as well as skill selection.

The different races also have a unique selection of skills, food and drink items, medicines and medical services. Humans and clones can perform meditation to move their skill factors to different ranges, whereas androids need to rely on software patches to do this which can have adverse effects. Additionally, humans and clones are use mind-altering relics with varied effects but are highly dangerous.

Your EIDOS statistics are affected by your race, these statistics are used in personal activities such as charting planets, gathering or hunting wildlife. Humans tend to have higher evasion and speed, clones have higher offence and androids higher intelligence, defence and speed. Your ancestry body and system will also contribute increases to these statistics.

In terms of combat humans can be susceptible to biogenic and nuclear saturation effects in combat, meaning they can be knocked out if the levels get too high. Androids are immune to biogenic saturation but are effected more by nuclear saturation. For wildlife hunting, clones and more-so androids will have a tougher time dealing with wildlife as they will be more aggressive and harder to catch or subdue. Clones specifically though during hunting can brace to have a higher maximum number of action points of five.

In terms of crafting, androids have a higher chance in all aspects of crafting due to increased understanding of complex systems.
