What is charting?

You can chart a planet if you are in a ship that can land, such as the Shuttle. Charting takes up to 8 hours in real-time and is an important activity for your entire faction, but can be stopped and started as required.

To chart a planet, open the helm window, select the system section and scroll down to the list of bodies in the system. Next to each body is a contextual menu that when pressed will have various options, one of those being "chart".

Once a planet is charted any consumables that can be gathered (a separate idle activity) will be listed as well as any wildlife present which can be hunted.

Consumables will always be useful as at the very least they can be sold, but often they will be required to complete missions, for colony requests and could also be exotic relics or other useful items.

Wildlife can be hunted for their parts or captured to become companions.

Charting time can be reduced with crew, skills, companions, boosts, region effects and consumables.
