How do I attack a ship?

To attack a ship at the same location as yourself, first find the ship in the window in the system section. For each ship there will be a contextual menu, clicking this will present various options with one being "attack".

A confirmation will present, confirming you wish to attack will start combat.

If you faction has NPC ships or structures at the same location they will automatically join your team, conversely if the ship you are attacking has friends they will join too.
