How to unlock a skill?

Most times when a factor changes you will also receive a skill point in the corresponding factor. You can view your factor levels and skill points from within the me window, the window access by clicking your characters portrait.

Skills are available at different different increments ranging from -100% to 100% and each increment dictates the skill points required to realise a skill at that range. For instance, a skill at -10% or 10% requires 10 points to realise, -20% or 20%, 20 points to realise and so on.

Changing factors can be achieved by performing activities such as mining, completing missions, jobs and various other mechanisms you can discover. Some skills are considered base skills since they unlock new ship roles to command, these are realised when you complete the Basic Flight Training Mission.

The Attack Craft skill allows you to purchase and command attack role ships, starting with the Fighter all the way up to large powerful ships like the Destroy.

The Construction Craft skills allows the purchase of construction craft helping you expand your factions grasp.

Similar to attack craft, the Defence Craft skill unlocks defence role craft starting with the Frigate leading all the way to ships like Juggernaut.

The Logistics Craft skill opens up logistic craft such as the Tanker, ships designed to move a lot of cargo around quickly.

The Mining Craft skill unlocks ships best in class for mining starting with the Barge and moving up to much larger vessels.

Operations Craft allows you to purchase and command operations role ships, ships that provide superiority in the battlefield.

The Recon Craft skill unlocks fast ships designed to discover new systems and head out into the frontier.

Support Craft are vessels that excel in aiding others.

Lastly, Transport Craft are centred around transporting other vessels or people.
