How can I improve sublight speed of my ship?

Every ship has a defined sublight speed measured in light years per minute, abbreviated to LY/m. This is how many light years the ship can travel in a minute in real-time. A sublight speed of 0.5 LY/m means a ship can travel one whole light year every two minutes, for instance.

You can improve this speed further by installing afterburners to your ship, which are a type of equipment port. Entry level equipment ports can be found in any system that has the port trading service.
