On the trinket mission. Do I just search for adrift cargo or do I have to go to the mission menu and click on locate?

When you are at the correct location, search for the trinket in the adrift cargo section of hold. If you have not found the trinket yet you will need to travel in 0.1 LY increments from the source using the sublight option in the helm window.
